Summary

Ella Strauss is just a girl when a car crash kills both her parents. Sent to live with her aunt, she's forced to become a member of the Nazi party, all the while privately hating everything they stand for. As she grows older, she learns that deep within the fabric of society there are groups of resisters defying the laws of the Third Reich. Alongside her best friend, Claudia, Ella joins the German Resistance, secretly hiding Jews in the basement of her aunt's antique shop. Then the unthinkable happens. Claudia falls victim to Hitler's nefarious Night and Fog directive and goes missing. With the help Max, a fellow resister, Ella infiltrates the Reich and spies for the British in exchange for information she hopes will lead to Claudia. There's only one problem. The deeper Ella goes undercover, the more she risks. She's fallen in love with Max, but now she's put his life in danger as well as Claudia's. Ella must choose whose life is worth saving, including her own.
