Dusky Bay, named by Captain Cook in 1770, is on the storm swept south-west coast of New Zealand's South Island. Later sealers, whalers, shipwrecked sailors and prospectors left their marks before nature reverted it to its virginal state. In this book two Dunedin doctors reconstruct the history of the area, its animal and plant life, and the men who trod its rocky shores. They include an impressive collection of early maps, documents, examples if the work of artists and naturalists who visited Dusky Sound.
