'The Temple of Wild Geese' tells the tale of Jinen, a Buddhist monk. 'The Bamboo Doll of Echizen' is the story of Kisaku, a bamboo artisan in Echizen. Both texts reflect a heart-rending picture of the sense of isolation and pain felt by Mizukami, who was forced to leave his home and family as a child to live in a temple in Kyoto.
