The naked portrait : 1900 to 2007

The portrait has played a much larger role in the modern period than might be expected, given the gloomy predictions by early twentieth-century commentators that we had seen the demise of portraiture under the combined assault of modern art and photography. It is to his great credit that Martin Hammer has both identified and, in the text of this book, explored the different forms that the naked portrait has taken.
