Summer knickers : a Scottish wartime childhood

Wiseman, Sarah Paton
Books, Manuscripts
This collection provides a child's view of life around her as she grows up in Scotland during WWII. The reader will be amused by the rebellious, passionate, curious protagonist as she struggles with good and bad. After daring to take a look at her father's extra glass eye, which is not allowed, she fears the glass eye may tell his good eye what she has done. Hiding Brown's boots is also not allowed, but Brown is bad andtried to make her wring a hen's neck...? This dilemma is confused by Sarah's belief in a loving Jesus and a very cross God. The child's joy in the snow, wind, loch and moor that surround her is movingly portrayed in prose poems.
